Strep throat, planes and shoes

On Monday December 16th we left for Arizona to visit Grandma Pat and Papa for almost a week.  My whole family was arriving in Arizona on various days throughout the week.  In the process of leaving Vincent made the comment that his neck hurt, but he was pointing to this throat.  Brad and Diane had errands to run in town before we left so I asked them to take Vincent to Urgent Care.  Vincent had strep throat.  We picked up antibiotics.  Started them before we left for the plane and headed to the airport.  Our plan was to leave plenty of time to get through security and grab dinner in the airport.  Our flight wasn’t until 7:30pm and we didn’t want any extra stress.  We had never flown with more than 1 child before, we usually just drive everywhere.

We left our house at 4pm and Diane and Craig gave us a ride.  We are 1 hour from the airport.  We didn’t get to the airport until after 6pm.  And as we were getting close to the airport I realized I was wearing my crocs!  The downside to an attached garage you can easily forget to put real shoes on.  Diane was kind enough to let me take her cowboy boots that she was wearing.  They ended up going out to dinner and she had to wear my blue crocs.  We then had to get our 3 kids, 2 car seats, 3 bags, carry on bags, and stroller to the ticket counter.  There was a short line!  Then we got a very nice, but slow lady to check us in whose printer broke and who gave us a broken car seat bag.  After standing there with 3 hungry kids for over 30 minutes it was 7:05pm and we still had not gone through security.  The lady at the ticket counter walked us to the short security line we quickly went through it and ran to our gate.  They were starting to board, but I sent Brad to run for hotdogs for all of us for dinner.  It was chaotic but we got on the plane with food, which gave the kids something to do while we were waiting to take off.

The kids and I all sat in 1 row and Brad had the aisle seat across form us.  The boys did an excellent job, they had electronic devices to help them!  Cecilia did ok at first but then was not thrilled to be sitting still anymore.  When the seat belt light was off we would let her jump in the aisle as long as no one was coming.  But at one point there was quite a bit of turbulence and she had to sit on my lap in a seat belt.  She threw a royal fit, complete with arching her back and throwing her head back and screaming.  I ended up with a bloody lip!  She is really strong.  Other than a couple fits she did well.  It is a long flight to Arizona and we were all very happy when we landed.

The ride home was a little bit better.  We got to the airport with time to spare and had a plan.  Our flight was delayed, but the kids did pretty well.  We were thankful that Craig and Diane were able to pick us up and we weren't having to go out to the parking lot with all our stuff and no help! It was late, we were tired and it was cold outside.
