Easter Overview

Easter is a big deal for my mom.  It is probably her favorite holiday!  It may have something to do with the fact that it is a holiday she gets to host and all of us kids are always there for Easter.

Our Easter celebration goes something like this:

Dinner in progress

Church with my family at the church I grew up in.  It is about 1 1/4 hours from our house which means getting all of us out of the house by 9am.  We were 15 minutes late.  We took the motor home so that I could get Cecilia dressed and ready when we got close since she was sleeping when we left.

At my mom's we ate, visited, met some of my sisters' friends and their families who joined us for Easter, ate some more, took pictures (Thanks Lisa and Tina!), visited, waited while Brad hid eggs, sat down with everyone and had dinner, Easter egg hunt, scavenger hunt, craft, eat, visit, and then leave.

The Easter egg hunt is for all the kids.  In order to be allowed in it you can not have any children that are old enough to be in the egg hunt.  The hunt takes place in and around the barn.  There is candy and money.  In total there are $100 hidden in eggs.  A week or so before Easter Dave found an egg from last year with $10 in it!  Needless to say our very competitive egg hunt involved aunts grabbing silent eggs before nephews could grab them, people climbing the rafters in the barn and a second trip to look for eggs when they realized all the money had not been found.  The dogs were opening eggs and eating the nerds and other candy before the kids found them!  Vince had fun and Joel didn't really understand although he did like the candy (which I ended up hiding, eating, or giving it away.)

The scavenger hunt is for adults and kids.  This year it was everyone over 20 against those under 20.  There is no real prize or award, just bragging rights and yet we are still ridiculously competitive!  After a sack race, several trips all over my parents 10 acre property, and deciphering clues our team won!  We were out of breath, sweaty, and happy to see we got a trophy this year.  Well, it is an old trophy from t-ball that someone painted pink, but either way we still won.  The one problem is that anytime Brad's team wins the other team claims that Brad cheated.  Has he cheated before? Yes.  Does he cheat every year? No.  Is he usually on the winning team? YES!  He just has a reputation now.  Plus when you are on the losing team it is easier to say you lost because Brad cheated.
