Heifer Hay Day

Our church hosts a Heifer Hay Day every year.  It is a fall festival whose purpose is to raise money for Heifer International.  It is a wonderful program that helps provide animals to people in many countries and teaches them to care for the animals.  The idea is to teach them to farm and grow their own food.

The Hay Day has tons of activities for families.  There was a couple puppet shows, food, hay rides, pony rides, a small petting zoo, a silent auction and raffle baskets, face painting and more!  My grandma Pat, the kids and I all went for several hours to enjoy the fun activities and support Heifer.  The kids had a blast!  Vincent’s friend Austin was there and he had fun running off and exploring everything with him.  Joel LOVED the two hens at the petting zoo.  When we got there he was the only kid in the pen with the 2 goats and 2 chickens.  He sat and talked to the chickens and they just sat there as both he and Cecilia pet them.  At one point Cecilia grabbed one of their combs and they didn’t even do anything!

Joel was getting upset they were holding one of the chickens.

Cecilia talking to the chicken.

As the afternoon went on there were more kids coming to see the animals.  They were picking up the chickens and being a little rough.  Joel was not happy!  He didn’t want anyone touching the chickens and especially not holding them.  In his mind they were supposed to stay on the ground, by him and that was the end of it.  We had several conversations about how we need to share the chickens.  After he convinced the kids to put the chickens down he would herd them into an area and “protect” them.  It was cute, but we had to drag him out of there several times to let the other kids take a turn.  Cecilia loved the animals too.  She was happy to hug the goats.  She was also happy because her friend Maggie was there!

The other hen came to check things out.

Cecilia tried so hard to lift the chicken.

The hay ride we went on was very long, close to 15-20 minutes.  Uncle Dave was driving and he took us to two different local farms and explained a little bit about farming to everyone.   The kids didn’t seem to care about the talks but loved the hayride!  We all had a lot of fun and our church was able to meet our goal of buying an Ark ($5,000+)!

Easter 2013!

Easter is one of my mom’s favorite holidays and it is for many reasons, but among the reasons is the fact that she gets to host it.  This year all of us kids arrived at my mom and Dave’s on Saturday.  Brad, the kids and I stayed in our RV.  Alyse, Jill and the Joes all stayed at the hotel in town.    It was a little disappointing that we weren’t all staying in one place, but that went out the window when I realized they had a pool at their hotel.  Saturday night we all invaded the hotel and had pizza for dinner.  During dinner Vincent really wanted one of the Joes to sit with him at the little table.  When I tried to sit by him he told me no.  Then Grandma Dawn tried to sit by him and he let her, but he was not happy about it and he said “I am just really disappointed right now because I wanted cool Joe to sit with me!”   After dinner Brad, Vincent, Joel and I went swimming.  Cecilia really wanted to swim, but we didn’t let her do more than just getting her feet wet.

I love to swim, except if the water is cold.  The water at the hotel wasn’t super warm but it wasn’t freezing either.  Usually Vincent is hesitant of the water but he put his life jacket on and jumped right in and started making friends.  He gets very excited lately to make new friends.  He went swimming right over to a group of kids playing and to a grandpa and grandson that were playing and introduced himself and started talking with them.  Then every time he made a new friend he would swim over and say “Mommy, did you see me?!”  The first time I said “Yes! And you are doing such a great job swimming!”  What did he say?  “No mommy!  Did you see me make a friend?”  Where did this kid come from?

There was a small water slide in the pool.  Vincent went down it once (with a little push from Aunt Kasi.  We told her to do it!) and was not too excited about going again.  Joel wanted to go down but kept chickening out too, so we asked Aunt Kasi to give him a little push too.  Joel acted like he didn’t like it, but he kept wanting to go again.  After a 2-3 times down the slide Joel was having so much fun.  He couldn’t get enough of the slide!  Brad would help him at the top and I would catch him (he had a life jacket on).  Then he would climb out of the pool and go again.  He was not happy when it was time to leave!

Super Vincent and his sidekick Aunt Jill

Starting Saturday night and continuing on all week Aunt Jill and Vincent were playing superheroes.  Aunt Jill was the sidekick and she was doing a fine job keeping up with Vincent’s imagination!

They all had fun on the trampoline, but did not like when Mommy jumped with them.

Crazies!

Easter was a little more relaxed this year.  It was the first year we didn’t do a craft or an adult scavenger hunt.  It was a nice change, although it would have been fun to do one of the activities.  We still had the egg hunt and both Joel and Vincent had a lot of fun looking for eggs and found quite a few.  The fact that Brad helped hide the eggs and was helping the boys find the eggs was helpful.  Cecilia didn’t care about the eggs, she liked the potbellied pig!

Hello piggy!

Come back!  I like you!

Mommy, are you seeing this?

Kennidy spent a lot of time on Saturday and Sunday making delicious desserts for everyone.  They were delicious!   The problem was that she made cupcakes, really wonderful cupcakes, and they were all at Joel’s eye level.  Joel has a cupcake problem…he will eat all of them!  He tried to eat most of them after 7-8 cupcakes he was cut off.  The sugar crash was not pretty!  I am thinking about suggesting a ban on cupcakes until Joel can get over his cupcake addiction, or at least hiding them so he can’t find them.

Excuse me, but who are you?

She really loved the pig and wasn't scared at all!

The kids had a lot of fun camping at Grandma Dawn and Papa Razzi’s house!  They were not very happy about having to leave.

Happy Birthday Cecilia!

Today is Cecilia's birthday!  She shares it with one of my best friends and I think that is pretty cool!  In some ways it is hard to believe that Cecilia is already 1 year old and in other ways it seems like she has been apart of our family forever.  She is a smart, sweet, strong, determined, fast moving girl that has melted her parents' hearts.  Joel and Vincent might not admit it but they love her a lot even if she makes them cry from time to time.

This is what we were doing 1 year ago today

She is loved by so many people.

A year later she looks like this!  Much cuter!

On Saturday we had a birthday party for Cecilia.  The birthday party almost didn't happen because she had a fever on Thursday and Friday.  Saturday morning she woke up without a fever and I was thrilled, except for the part where I had to motivate the kids to help me get ready for a party.  Brad was at a conference all morning and I was flying solo.  Later in the morning my grandparents, my mom and Kennidy all came over and helped me get things all set up.  It was such a blessing!

We had a great evening with friends and family.  Bob and Sarah brought the Ranger and the bobsled and gave people rides around the pasture in the small amount of snow we had gotten overnight.  I forgot to tell some people about the sledding.  Luckily we have several extras of everything and we managed to find warm clothes for everyone that wanted to go sledding.  Later in the evening I was able to go on the sled with Vincent, Karoline, Keith, my cousin Kristy and my friend's daughter.  It was a blast!

Luke you should try the cupcakes they are delicious!

Try some daddy it is really good!

I love cupcakes!

Cecilia really enjoyed attempting to blow out the candle on her cupcake, but not nearly as much as she enjoyed eating the cupcake.  She loved it!  On the other hand opening presents was not something she cared very much about, which is good because there were a lot of kids that wanted to help her.

At the birthday party we also had a chance to use our new popcorn machine that my dad gave us for Christmas.  I am not sure if all the kids had more fun eating the popcorn or watching it cook.

A big thank you to everyone who brought food, gifts and gave up a Saturday night to help us celebrate Cecilia's 1st birthday!
