Fun in the barn...kittens, bunny, cows, horses, and more!

Moving has provided us with many new activities.  One place the kids like to go is the barn and arena.  In the barn you can visit the cows, the bunny, kittens, parakeets, occasionally find a snack, ride a horse (or just say hi to them), jump on the trampoline, play in the sand in the arena, practice roping, or just run around the arena knocking down poles.  If you are lucky you will even run into your Aunt and cousins.

The first few weeks we were living with Diane Joel had a very specific routine he had to do.  First visit the kittens, run up and visit the bunny and sit in the bunny’s cage while he talked to the bunny, and then climb down a small ladder to the feed bunk where the cows lived.  Actually even after the cows moved to the pasture he still had to climb up and down the ladder and say hi to the horses that were there.  As time went on he wasn’t as committed to his routine which is too bad because he had us all trained!

Cecilia was thrilled that her dog and cat were cuddling

The big hit in the barn this summer, besides riding Alasan, was the kittens.  Since the kittens were 1 week old the kids and I have been visiting them and the momma cat in the barn.  Joel was adorable with the kittens he would get so excited to see them, sit down and start talking to them.  He was so gentle with them!  Vincent thought they were fun to see for a few minutes.  Cecilia like to talk to the kittens too, but she loved talking to the momma cat and would follow her around trying to hug and kiss her.  Amazingly the momma cat didn’t seem to mind all the attention.

My kids don't always get out of their pjs right away...sometimes not until lunch!

The kittens were named by my nieces and nephew and they are Finn, Mocha Maddie, Cupcake and Jim.  The momma’s name is Huckleberry.  Cupcake was Joel’s favorite, but he could tell them all apart.  We took the kittens on a few adventures in the barn.  We took them on their first trip to the sand arena, we introduced them to our dogs, and Cupcake and Finn even got to ride Alasan with Joel.  Finn didn’t enjoy riding very much, but Cupcake sat on the saddle with Joel all the way around the arena.  Joel was so proud the he was taking Cupcake riding!

As the kittens have grown and now are 10 weeks old (or so) Joel has less interest in them.  He still likes to see them, but the kittens don’t just sit on his lap anymore or let him carry them around where ever he wants to.  Something about them having minds of their own and running away and hiding from him makes them not as much fun anymore.  Although, Vincent likes to play with them now more than ever!  He slowly waves the whip around the arena sand and the kittens all try to catch it.  He thinks it is hilarious!

Cupcake this is how you ride a horse

This is crazy!  I really have a cat riding with me.

Mommy, don't we have enough pictures?

Cupcake I promise this is fun....just hold the reins and you will be fine.

It has been a lot of fun watching the kittens grows this summer!  I am happy to report that 2 of them have new homes.  Hopefully the other two, plus the other litter that was found in the barn, find new homes soon too.

Ok, Mommy 1 more picture
